PM Ujjwala Yojana for women: eligibility, documents and how to apply

Check the current PMUY 2.0 eligibility rules, prepare the family and identity documents, apply through an official route and understand which LPG costs or refill support need separate confirmation.

In this guide

Check whether a woman in your household may qualify

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana provides eligible adult women from poor households an LPG connection in the woman’s name. The scheme portal’s live eligibility and application pages control; an online guide cannot confirm an individual application.

The applicant must be an adult woman

The current PMUY 2.0 page says the applicant must be a woman aged 18 or older. The applicant also makes the prescribed deprivation declaration for a poor household.

Confirm the present application window and connection stock

PMUY releases new connections through approved extensions and local distributors. The portal can show the current application route, but local processing or availability may differ. Confirm with the official distributor before travelling or paying for transport.

Prepare documents and use an official application route

The current PMUY portal lists the documents and allows online or distributor applications. Keep the applicant involved, especially when identity and bank details are submitted.

Gather the documents listed on the live form

The current checklist includes the applicant’s Aadhaar, KYC form, bank account details, a State ration card or another government family-composition document, and the deprivation declaration. If the current address differs from Aadhaar, or the applicant is a migrant, check the listed alternative proof and self-declaration rules.

Review the completed form before it is submitted

Check spelling against documents, household members, current address, bank details and the declaration. Keep a copy of the form and ask the distributor which number to use for a status enquiry. Never share a bank PIN, password or one-time code with an agent.

Know what the connection assistance covers

The scheme’s connection package and any ongoing refill support are separate questions. Ask the distributor to itemise what is included before agreeing to a charge.

Confirm the connection package at the time of issue

The PMUY FAQ describes a deposit-free connection and an initial refill and stove provided under the scheme. Check the current list of equipment, cylinder size, delivery, any state stamp fee and receipt with the distributor before signing.

Do not assume future refills are free

A free initial refill does not mean every later refill is free. Refill prices and any targeted subsidy can change; check the current official terms, booking amount and bank-credit status each time. Keep booking receipts and bank entries.

Follow LPG safety instructions from the distributor

Ask for a demonstration of cylinder placement, regulator use, hose checks and emergency shut-off. The LPG emergency number listed by PMUY is 1906. Do not use a leaking cylinder; move people away and follow the distributor’s emergency instructions.

Follow up if the application or subsidy is delayed

Use the distributor and oil-company grievance channels with the application or consumer reference. Do not send full identity or bank records through an unverified chat.

Check bank mapping only if a separate refill subsidy is due

If the current scheme provides a refill subsidy and it has not reached the bank, the FAQ advises checking Aadhaar seeding and active bank mapping, then raising the issue with the bank, distributor or oil company. First confirm that a subsidy applies to the refill and period in question.

Keep control of the woman’s connection

The account and consumer number should remain accessible to the named woman. Ask before changing the registered phone, bank account or distributor, and keep the cylinder and documents where she can use them safely.

Questions women ask about Ujjwala

Can a man apply in his own name?

PMUY’s current new-connection criteria name an adult woman as the applicant. A family member may support the application, but the eligible woman remains the applicant.

What if Aadhaar shows an old address?

The portal’s checklist provides for address proof when the Aadhaar address differs and a self-declaration route for migrant applicants in specified cases. Ask the distributor which current form fits your situation.
